About Sarkozy

Nicolas Sarkozy, born Nicolas Paul Stéphane Sarközy de Nagy-Bocsa on 28 January 1955 in Paris, is the son of a Hungarian immigrant, Pál Sárközy de Nagy-Bócsa (some sources spell it Nagy-Bócsay in Hungarian pronunciation) and a mother of French and Sephardic Jewish descent, Andrée Mallah.

Sarkozy, of The Conservative Party UMP (Union pour un Mouvement Populaire / UPM - The Union for a Popular Movement), was elected as the 23th President of the French Republic on 6 May 2007 after defeating Socialist Party contender Ségolène Royal during the 2007 election, and will take office on 16 May 2007.
